Exercise Technique - The Squat

The Squat

Squats are good to develop the quadriceps, hamstrings and glutes. For added benefit, you can also perform a squat using a barbell or a set of dumbbells. It is also important to add that the squat can be completed using explosive power to benefit specific sports training (if you require further clarification on this technique, feel free to chat to a Fitness Consultant at your Club).

Start by standing straight with your feet at a moderate to wide distance apart. Keep your shoulders back and keep your back in its natural arch. Squat until your knees are bent at a 90º angle, ensuring your knees don't extend over your toes. Maintain the natural arch in your lower back, chest expanded, shoulder blades together and head over hips.

Return to starting position with heels remaining on the ground. Repeat.

Note:
If you are at all unsure about the correct technique when performing this exercise, please consult a Fitness Consultat at your Club. If you experience any pain whilst performing the exercise, please stop and consult your physician.
